Talk Hard

It's 9:40PM and time for another update.

I have a movie recommendation for you all. "Pump Up The Volume".

It's not a movie about guns or explosions. Nor is it a movie about love and drama. It's a movie about truth and it is an excellent movie. Get it. Now. At least rent it once. It's a decent ten years old, but EVEN IN TODAYS SOCIETY, the point holds.

The problem with today's society is a lot of the problems we all face in our day to day lives are not talked about in general society. They're matters left to the office of a psychiatrist or to whispered conversations in the dead of night with your best friend. Reality is an illusion, society is an illusion and how many of us put on our happy faces from one day to the next and march forward to face a new day?

But does it help?

How many organizations exist to help people? Sure, we have all these wonderful organizations out there, like Pink Triangle Services, the Youth Service Bureau and Kids Help Phone. And they help people, who are willing to go. But how effective are they? Here, in the land that is Canada, they do a pretty good job. I've only seen the homosexual parts of our social programs, but they're pretty decent - far above what I imagine exists in America. In Canada we are lucky enough to live in a decent society where a lot of the so-called "deviant" behaviours are not only tolerated but supported by the community (at least here in Ottawa, the nations official capital). But is everyone so lucky? Homosexuality, along with many forms of sexual deviance, is a criminal offense in some states and in many other countries. Now I've talked a lot about discrimination before, but it's not the only point. Take the Gothic style of dress. I've heard stories of people who are just so against people who are Goth that it sickens me. The qualities they assign us as a group are just out of this world and you have to wonder where they dream it up.

But beyond all of that, how about just the problems that come with being a teenager? The normal day to day stuff of finding a girlfriend (its hard isn't it) and just going on with all these confusing thoughts. Don't you just want to scream somedays?

That is the reason I love online journals. It gives people a chance to scream their opinions to the world and maybe only a very few people are listening, but PEOPLE STILL ARE LISTENING TO YOU. As is proved by you reading this, especially if you've never met me.

This movie, PUMP UP THE VOLUME, is about a kid who starts his own radio show with people who write in, so that he can talk about the problems in the world, give some advice and hope to people and so that people can know that they're not alone in the world. It's almost a shame that there is nothing like that on the web - when you think about how easy it is to set up your own website with some script to do that, it's very shocking.

But that is my spiel for today. Comments are, as always, welcomed by MSN, e-mail or the little comment button to your right.
